α-L-iduronic acid.
These sugars are present in decreasing amounts, as a regular in the order (2) > (1) > (4) > (3) > (5). Heparin is strongly acidic due to its content of covalently linked sulfate and carboxylic acid groups.
Mechanism of action of heparin

Heparin dosage
The recommended dosage of heparin depends on some aspects. The dosage is henges on the coagulation test results. These tests must be performed enough often. If heparin is administrated by continous intravenous infusion, the coagulation tests should be done approximately every four hours in the early stages of treatment.
